Funding to Drive Development of CardioCrown’s Innovative Home-Based Stroke Rehabilitation Technology
CardioCrown has been awarded a Fast Start grant from Innovate UK as part of a £30 million funding initiative aimed at supporting small and micro businesses with breakthrough ideas ready for commercialisation. This funding will support the development of CardioCrown’s NeuroVive system, an advanced solution designed to empower stroke survivors in managing their own rehabilitation journey from the comfort of home.
Innovate UK’s funding scheme offers up to £50,000 per business to develop products, processes, or services that deliver a distinct advantage in their field. CardioCrown’s NeuroVive project aims to bring transformative change to stroke rehabilitation, providing a self-management tool grounded in the latest neuroscience and motor learning theories.
NeuroVive’s capabilities bridge the gap between facility-based treatments and at-home recovery, giving patients greater autonomy and continuity of care.
Victor Harbari, CEO of CardioCrown, commented: “This grant from Innovate UK is a major milestone in helping us develop NeuroVive as a truly disruptive solution for stroke rehabilitation. We are excited to use this funding to move from concept to a minimum viable product, showcasing the potential of NeuroVive to transform patient-led recovery at home.”
About the NeuroVive Project
The NeuroVive system comprises three core components: a wearable hardware module, a software platform, and a web-based interface. The hardware module integrates cutting-edge technology, including sensors for Electromyography (EMG), web-based analysis, and a multichannel electrical stimulation circuit designed to facilitate Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES). Through these elements, NeuroVive can deliver effective and tailored therapy, adjusting in real time based on sensory feedback.
Currently at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 2, NeuroVive’s next milestone is to reach TRL 5. This journey includes software development for the Virtual Reality (VR) headset, further hardware and firmware advancements, and comprehensive integration and testing. Once complete, the minimum viable product (MVP) will demonstrate NeuroVive’s ability to deliver high-quality, accessible home-based stroke rehabilitation.
The Road Ahead
The Innovate UK grant represents a pivotal moment for CardioCrown, positioning the company to accelerate its product development timeline. Upon reaching TRL 5, the NeuroVive system will be primed for showcasing, facilitating further company growth and attracting additional funding to fuel its journey towards commercialisation.
